The award recognizes exceptional commitment to and compassion for the human rights of children and youth with disabilities.

Harry Pott, co-chair of The Family Alliance Ontario said: “Dr. Law has held a strong belief in the contribution of people with disabilities to enrich their communities. She has listened to the dreams and frustrations of families and than taken action to help those dreams to grow and those frustrations to lessen in practical ways.”

Through Law's leadership at McMaster's CanChild Centre for Childhood Disability Research, children and youth with disabilities and their families have found opportunities to contribute to research as 'community faculty members' and in the development of projects to benefit families.

Law was presented with the award at the annual Family Alliance Conference at St. Clair College, Windsor, on May 6, 2006.
