The production brought the audience back to a time when a small group of hippies and protestors were fighting to deliver a message that is still relevant in today's world. It was a time when young people were promoting harmony and understanding — the Age of Aquarius — portrayed through sex, drugs and communal living.
The event was organized by the McMaster Employee Spirit Society (M.E.S.S.!). The objective of the society is to promote McMaster team spirit through the organization of sporting and cultural events that encourage employees to have fun with their colleagues and families.
This event was also co-sponsored through the generous support of the Office of Student Affairs. Phil Wood, associate vice-president, student affairs, began the afternoon with opening remarks.
The event featured complimentary tickets to the show, refreshments and draw prizes. The request for tickets to this special matinee performance was overwhelming, and the event was sold out within hours of the online registration becoming available.
The members of the M.E.S.S.! were thrilled with the participation and encouragement that they received. The audience was delighted with the powerful vocal performances, vibrant staging and the overall message that the actors delivered.
The M.E.S.S.! committee is made up of the following employees: Pat Harris (chair), Kathy Kishimoto, Pat Fraser, Alexandra Coldwell, Deridor Collier, Lou DiDomenico, Mark Alfano, Dale Stevens and Tami Esmail.
M.E.S.S.! is always interested in enthusiastic volunteers to join the team. Interested volunteers can e-mail redford@mcmaster.ca or contact Lorraine Redford at ext. 24556.
