Research Infosource Inc. released its 2007 ranking of Canada's top 50 research universities and McMaster, once again, placed among the country's best.

A total sponsored research income of $331.6 million kept McMaster in 6th place overall, while other universities jockeyed for position.

In terms of research intensity — a measure of research income per full-time faculty member — McMaster placed second in the country, averaging nearly $291,000 per faculty member.

Mo Elbestawi, vice-president, research and international affairs, is pleased with the overall results, noting the University continues to “punch above its weight.”

“This ranking speaks volumes to our ability to compete with institutions which are substantially larger than ours,” he says. “But what's hidden behind all of the numbers is the people — the people who are drawn to McMaster because of our research reputation. Our researchers are first-class. They are among the world's best and they continue to attract research funding at incredible rates.”
