The high energy for which these concerts have been known is definitely not in short supply in this program as our most distinguished music students give it their all.

The concert will feature five student soloists of the highest calibre. Violinists Jieun Cha, Julie Kim, Carol King and Jeffrey Lam will perform Vivaldi's sparkling Concerto in B Minor for Four Violins and violist Alexander Caudarella will shine as he performs the seldom-heard Lyric Movement for Viola and Orchestra by Gustav Holst.

This piece not only has the distinction of being one of the very last works by this distinguished English composer, but is also perhaps his most moving.

Rounding out the program will be Prokofiev's sultry Overture on Jewish Theme. Although most often heard in its chamber version, the orchestral version features a fresh approach. Last, but not least, the monumental Symphony No. 1 by Beethoven will conclude the concert.

Wrapped in ivy, spacious, and acoustically warm, McMaster University's Convocation Hall is the setting for The School of the Arts famous Concert Series, a Hamilton tradition since 1972.

All performances by the McMaster Chamber Orchestra take place on Sundays at 3 p.m. in Convocation Hall (University Hall 213).

Admission is $5 for students and $10 regular, or $15 for both the Nov. 12 concert and the March 11 concert.

The McMaster Chamber Orchestra is presented by the McMaster University School of the Arts (SOTA), which also presents the eight-concert Celebrity Concert Series on Fridays at 8 p.m., a nine-concert Free Lunchtime Concert Series on Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m., and Ensemble Concerts which include The McMaster Concert Band, McMaster Jazz Band, McMaster Choir, Vocal Ensemble and Flute Ensemble.
