McMaster Burlington campus receives city council approval

The proposed McMaster campus in Burlington took another step forward this week as city council unanimously approved the project in principle.

The vote by Mayor Cam Jackson and councillors Tuesday confirms the city's intention to provide $10 million toward the cost of constructing the campus in a downtown location.

“Burlington council's approval is a significant step forward for the campus,” says McMaster President Peter George. “The unanimous support of Mayor Jackson and council members is appreciated as we work toward university ratification of the campus plan.”

The approval in principle confirms the city's contribution of funds and land for the downtown campus. Council's approval is subject to the university and city completing an on-site parking plan and gaining other zoning approvals. These discussions continue.

The DeGroote School of Business is the primary focus of the McMaster Burlington campus. The school's executive MBA, MBA and some graduate programs will be located there.

Plans also include a McMaster Family Medicine Clinic, a community family practice teaching unit of the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine, which will have a team of family physicians who will teach medical residents and provide care to patients.
