to pursue a second term as McMaster's provost.

In a message to the University Deane said, “Ilene has been a tireless advocate for faculty
growth and renewal and the quality of the student experience at McMaster. She has
championed strategic enrolment management, budget model transformation, the
renewal of our information technology systems and the expansion and improvement of
teaching and other facilities on campus.”

Busch-Vishniac came to McMaster in 2007 from Johns Hopkins University where she
was dean of engineering and a professor of mechanical engineering having previously
been at the University of Texas and Bell Laboratories. “One of the great advantages of
an academic career is the ability to take on a variety of roles and to move between work
as a researcher, a teacher and an administrative leader,” said Busch-Vishniac. “I'm proud
of all that we have accomplished during my time as McMaster's provost and have had
the privilege of working with two outstanding presidents. But it feels like the right time
to step out of the role.”

Busch-Vishniac will continue as provost until her term expires at the end of June, 2012.

A Senate search committee has been struck to conduct the provost search. The
committee membership can be found href=”http://dailynews.mcmaster.ca/images/provostselection.pdf”>here.
