McMaster basketball star earns national honours

HALIFAX- McMaster basketball star Steve Maga was a big winner at the CIAU awards dinner last night.

Maga, a fourth-year student, was named a second team All-Canadian. The 5'11″ point guard was also named the recipient of the TSN award for best combining academics, athletics, and community involvement.

The Stoney Creek native was captain of the World University Games team in 1999 and was named the McMaster Athlete of the Year in 1999. An academic All-Canadian, Steve is a kinesiology student who is also pursuing a minor in mathematics.

In his spare time, Maga is a volunteer high school math tutor and a member of Athletes Helping Athletes, a mentoring program spanning university, high school, and elementary schools that focuses on positive life choices. He also participates in a lunchtime reading program in local elementary schools.

Maga averaged 17.3 points and 5.4 assists in league play for the Marauders this season.
