McMaster announces nominees for Major Athletic Awards

Athletic Season for 850 student-athletes at McMaster. The University is pleased to announce the nominees for the Major Athletic Awards.

Female Athlete of the Year nominees:

Carly Cermak (Swimming), Lindsay Degroot (Basketball), Stephanie Howorun (Wrestling) and Sarah Van Hoof (Rugby)

Ivor Wynne (Male Athlete of the Year) Award nominees

Martin Ajayi (Basketball), Scott Chester (Swimming), Sheldon Francis (Wrestling), Matt Miller (Wrestling), Mike Pletch (Rugby) and
Jason Wellings (Golf)

Dr. Ray Johnson Award (Graduating Senior) Award nominees:

Paul Hrkal (Volleyball), Natan Reiter (Cross Country, Track & Field), and Adam Steiner (Basketball)

Dr. Edna Guest Award (Graduating Senior) Award nominees:

Mel Berry (Rugby), Jane Wilkinson (Swimming), and Linda Zelek (Volleyball)

Les Prince Award (Community Service – Individual)

Shawn Benninger (Cross Country & Track and Field), Nate Finlay (Football), and Carly Moore (Soccer)

Joyce Wignall Award (Community Service – Team)

Fastpitch, Field Hockey, Gymnastics, Rowing and Swimming

Bruce Cochrane (Support Staff) nominees

Rob Ashwood (Operations & Scramble Crew), Megan Deffett (Student-Therapist) and Lieran Doherty (Operations)

The winners will be announced at the 83rd Annual Athletics Awards Presentation on Thursday, March 22 from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. in the David Braley Athletic Centre.

McMaster will also announce the winners of the first McMaster Sportsmanship Awards named in the honour and generously supported by McMaster Chancellor Dr. Mel Hawkrigg and his wife Marilyn.

The Awards Presentation is open to all members of the community, including McMaster faculty, staff, students, media, alumni, family, friends and fans.
