Mask distribution, bookable study space and online support for students

Mask Distribution

As the fall term begins, even though most classes are online, a limited number of additional staff, students and faculty will now require access to campus. The University will provide two cloth masks for those required to be on campus. Instructors will hand out masks to students whose courses require some in-person instruction. Additional details about mask distribution for employees and staff will follow, Supervisors will receive information shortly on how to order masks for any of their team members required to work onsite.

McMaster Safety App

As COVID-19 cases are beginning to increase, the health and safety of the McMaster community remains the University’s main priority. The McMaster Safety App now links users directly to the provincial COVID-19 screening tool.

The McMaster Safety App is free to download on personal devices and provides valuable safety and emergency information to users.

Anyone accessing campus is required to complete the screening in advance and wear a mask in all indoor spaces.

Bookable Study Space

To provide students with physically-distanced workspaces and dependable wi-fi, a limited number of bookable study spaces will be available starting Sept. 14. The dedicated spaces on the ground floor of Mills Library will be available for quiet study Monday through Friday, from 1pm to 5pm.

All visits must be booked in advance. Students must check into their seat by scanning a QR code at their workspace within 30 minutes of the start of their reservation. Otherwise, their reservation will be cancelled. Students must wear face masks, complete the COVID-19 Awareness Training in Mosaic in advance, and complete the provincial COVID-19 self-assessment tool one hour before coming to campus.

Online support for Students

With most fall classes online this term, and students accessing McMaster teaching resources remotely, University Technology Services is providing dedicated tech support for students. This UTS page includes details on all the supports to help students navigating this new semester of online learning. Students can also contact UTS directly for help at (905) 525-9140 ext. 24357.
