A sad loss for the McMaster family with the passing of Marion Bourns, the wife of former McMaster president Arthur Bourns. Marion died March 4 at the age of 90 after a two-year struggle with cancer.

“So many people have fond memories of Marion,” said McMaster president Peter George. “She was a great support to Art during his time as president and she was an active member of the McMaster community in her own right. Her involvement with students, faculty and alumni contributed so much to the University and she will be greatly missed.”

Born in Petitcodiac, New Brunswick, Marion lived most of her life in Ontario. She had a passion for collecting books, antiques and art. She was a long-time volunteer at the Hamilton Art Gallery and a member of the Women's Guild of the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra.

A memorial service will be held at the McMaster University Divinity College Chapel on Sunday, March 9 at 3 p.m. with a reception to follow at the McMaster University Club.
