Marauders to take on Ohio State in New Year’s Eve match
The Marauders men’s volleyball team is hoping to ring in the new year with a win over one of the NCAA’s best.
The Marauders will take on the Ohio State Buckeyes for a two-match series Dec. 31 and Jan. 2 in Columbus.
The Marauders are ranked first in Canada, while the Buckeyes were ranked sixth in the NCAA earlier this month.
A season ago, the Buckeyes bested the Marauders in each of their two matches in an August exhibition series, sweeping the first before outlasting McMaster over the course of five sets to win the second.
The current situation, however, is quite different. For its part, McMaster finds itself at the midway point of a pivotal season, as it prepare to host the CIS Championship tournament in March.
Sitting at a perfect 11-0 in OUA play, and having been the top seed in the country throughout the fall, the Marauders are in a competitive mode.
Similarly, where the Buckeyes were months removed from their winter Division I schedule at the time of last season’s meeting, Ohio State will be fully readied for regular play when the teams clash on New Year’s Eve.
