Marauders sack Lancers, clinch first

Ben D'Aguilar

Ben D’Aguilar, of the McMaster Marauders, had one quarterback sack on Saturday during a 39-18 home win over Windsor. The sack brought his 2012 total to 12.5, a new CIS football single-season record.

The Marauders football team secured first place in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) conference Saturday with a 39-18 win over the Windsor Lancers.

Nearly 6,000 were in attendance for the win, which also guaranteed the team home field advantage throughout the OUA playoffs.

McMaster sits atop the conference standings with a perfect 7-0 record, riding a 17-game winning streak that dates back to September 17, 2011.

The team needs just two more wins to equal Laval’s record 19 victories, accomplished between the 2004 and 2005 seasons.

In Saturday’s win, McMaster’s Ben D’Aguilar became Canadian Interuniversity Sport’s single season record holder in sacks by posting his 12.5th sack on Windsor’s Austin Kennedy. He passed Bishop’s great Leroy Blugh (1988) and Queen’s Jim Aru (1996) who previously held the mark of 11.5.

The Marauders’ next game is scheduled for October 20, 1 p.m. at Ron Joyce Stadium.
