Strange things happen on a football field when opposing teams end up separated
by more than 60 points.

In a game that saw McMaster's season-opening starting quarterback Jon
Behie start at wide receiver and catch four balls, University of Toronto's
starting quarterback Mark Stinson rush for a touchdown, catch a pass, and still
manage to throw a couple passes, luckily some things stayed the same in second
place McMaster's 77-14 win over the U of T Varsity
Blues
. Namely, the Jesse Lumsden show continued, if only for one half of
football.

Lumsden rushed for 204 yards on 16 carries in a little under one half of play
and also scored four touchdowns. Rick Andrade continued his solid play in relief
of Lumsden, rushing for 133 yards on 11 carries with one touchdown.

McMaster's offensive line continued to dominate OUA opponents, as Marauder
runners went untouched through the hole on many of their runs.

McMaster's feature running back, Lumsden, now has 804 yards rushing on
the season, and 10 touchdowns in only three games. With five games left in the
season, Lumsden needs 808 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns to break the CIS records
for both categories.

Behie, who had thrown for six touchdowns on the season leading to a 2-0 start,
started at wideout for Mac and caught Adam Archibald's first three completions.
He ended up with four receptions for 47 yards. Behie took some snaps at quarterback
in the second half, completing two of six passes for 45 yards.

Archibald, in his first start of the season, showed good poise in the pocket,
completing 9 of 14 passes for 141 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Other offensive scores on the day went to tight end Sean Postma, fullback Rob
Mitchell, and fullback Kristian Consack.

On defence, McMaster was led by linebacker Jason Pottinger with four tackles
and linebacker Manny Furtado who returned an interception for a touchdown. Jason
Arakgi also had an interception and Nathan Finley had two sacks for the Marauders.

Next Saturday, McMaster
travels to the Kitchener/Waterloo area to face the Laurier
Golden Hawks
(3-0) at 2 p.m. in a battle for first place in the OUA. The
following week, on Oct. 2, the Marauders will have their homecoming weekend,
as they host the Guelph
Gryphons
.
