“Without the leadership and vision of the student leaders
involved in the referendum and the planning of the facility, improvements to McMaster's athletic facilities would not be possible,” said Therese Quigley, director of Athletics and Recreation. “Students are enjoying the faciliies and programs that the leaders of yesterday created for the students of today.”

Located on the west side of the David Braley Athletic Centre, Marauder Plaza is a tribute and a thank you to students, who voted five years ago to contribute $20 million to the construction of the complex through special levies.

“The new athletic complex has greatly impacted student life here at McMaster, especially considering the fact that over 70 per cent of students use the facilities,” said Azim Kasmani, president of the McMaster Students Union. “Past students were really the catalyst in getting this project started by beginning the funding process and benefiting generations of students to come.”

Marauder Plaza features the work of local stone sculptor and artist Walt Rickli, who created a trio of natural stone sculptures called Life Size to pay tribute to the metamorphosis and journey of the student. It highlights the concept of “paying it forward.”

The event will take place Friday, Sept. 26 in Marauder Plaza on the west side of the David Braley Athletic Centre from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. before the Marauder football team takes on York University at 7 p.m. The McMaster community is welcome to attend.
