MacID Password Reset Coming for All McMaster – mid-June through August

Over the coming weeks and months, all McMaster staff, faculty, students, active alumni and retirees with a MacID will be scheduled to reset their passwords.


To make our systems more secure, McMaster is undertaking a global reset for all MacID passwords. This activity is required and will be administered by University Technology Services (UTS). You can learn more about these plans and the steps involved here 

Over the coming weeks and months, all McMaster staff, faculty, students, active alumni and retirees with a MacID will be scheduled to reset their passwords. The password reset schedule will begin with McMaster staff and faculty across June and early July, leading up to students in late July. The detailed roll-out schedule is available here.  

Important to know: 

Please note, you will NOT receive a direct email prompt to reset your MacID password and should always be aware of any suspicious emails or requests. Learn more about phishing and IT security here. 

When it’s your turn to reset your password, you will automatically be prompted to do so when you next log into McMaster Microsoft services using your MacID. Please remember you will need to change your passwords on all your devices! More information and how-tos are available here. If you have recently reset your password (after May 20, 2021) you may not be prompted to reset again. 

How to prepare, more information and resources:  

To complete your scheduled MacID password reset, the following steps are recommended:

Complete the Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR)registrationif you haven’t already done so. 

Once you complete your SSPR registration, you will have the option to sign up for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)adding even more protection to your MacID.
