MacDraft to educate campus community about fire safety

Organizers of a live, on-campus fire demonstration scheduled for Thursday hope the
event will sear fire safety practices into the minds of McMaster students.
Organized by the Off-Campus Resource Centre, MacDraft will see a mock room set on
fire in front of the John Hodgins Engineering building in the centre of campus. Members
of the Hamilton Fire Department will be on-hand to set, control and extinguish the fire
and to talk to students and the community about fire safety.
“Student safety is a top priority at McMaster and events like these help to ensure that
everyone is properly educated about their roles and responsibilities in helping to keep
the campus a safe place,” said Phil Wood, associate vice-president student affairs and
Dean of Students.
Wood added that fire education is just one aspect of living safely on and off-campus.
“McMaster offers a number of resources aimed at helping students live safely, including
training for those moving into residence and ongoing programming on specific safety
and health issues,” he said.
Macdraft will run at 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 22.
