The Lyons New Media Centre will officially open today with a celebration being held at Mills Memorial Library.
The centre, located on the fourth floor of Mills, is an expansion of the Lyons Media Centre and will act as a hub for the study of new and traditional media technologies.
“It is a completely new direction for the Library,” said University Librarian Jeffrey Trzeciak. “The space will encourage and promote important dialogue on critical topics in media technology and will enhance McMaster's strength as a leading place for learning and research.”
The centre will provide an array of services to the McMaster community, including support and consultation for digital media projects, video editing, DVD and podcast production and research. It will also help to explore and promote new media in strengthening teaching, learning and research at the University.
The space includes video and audio editing workstations, group viewing rooms, video-gaming rooms and a media technology centre. A variety of equipment will be made available for student and faculty use including portable audio recorders, high-definition camcorders and a green screen.
The opening-event will run from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Lyons New Media Centre on the fourth floor of Mills Memorial Library. The event is open to the McMaster community.
