McMaster running back Jesse Lumsden decided to put on a show for the sold-out
crowd at Les Prince Field on Saturday as the Marauder
football team
coasted to a 55-17 victory over the Waterloo
Warriors
.

With a capacity crowd on hand for the Marauder's home opener, Lumsden,
a fourth-year geography student, ran for 344 yards on 24 carries, including
three touchdowns. During the game, he became McMaster's all-time leading
rusher, with 2922 career yards. His final tally for the contest, in only a little
over three quarters of play, was also the second-highest total in OUA history.

Lumsden got things started by rolling off a 108-yard touchdown run to put Mac
ahead 7-0 in the opening quarter. The long gallop broke an OUA record for longest
run from scrimmage and tied a CIS record that had stood since 1967.

Marauder quarterback Jon Behie carried his solid play from last week into Saturday,
completing 7 of 10 passes for 219 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.
Behie continued to find his favourite target, Vaughn Swart, as the wideout caught
five balls for 133 yards and three touchdowns.

With two field goals and seven converts, fifth-year engineering student Mike
Ray became the Marauder's all-time leader in both categories (converts
113 and scoring 280 points).

Linebacker Tristan Clovis led the Marauder defense with five tackles and an
interception. Jon Chard chipped in with four tackles and an interception. Jesse
Card and Kwame Aidoo also intercepted Waterloo quarterback Jon Morbey who took
a pounding all day from McMaster defenders.

McMaster outrushed Waterloo 404 to 44.

Next week, McMaster stays at Les Prince Field to face the University
of Toronto Varsity Blues
. Game time is 2 p.m. and tickets can be purchased
at the Compass Information Centre
in the McMaster University Student Centre.
