Life and health sciences lead the way for McMaster in latest ranking

McMaster has once again been identified as a global leader in the study of life sciences and medicine, according to the 2024 QS World University Rankings by Subject.


McMaster has long been recognized as a global leader in the study of health and life sciences, and that trend continued today with the release of the 2024 QS World University Rankings by Subject.

Ranking 55th in the world and fourth in Canada, today’s rankings announcement is the latest to place McMaster among the top institutions in the world, joining the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and Shanghai Rankings.

At the subject level, four specific areas ranked among the top 100 in the world, with sports-related subjects (kinesiology) ranking 32nd, nursing ranking 33rd, medicine ranking 43rd and anatomy ranking 44th.

Five additional subject areas – Chemical Engineering, English Language & Literature, Social Policy, Statistics and Theology – ranked among the top 150 in the world.

In total, McMaster ranked 189th in the world.


The QS World University Rankings by Subject ranked 1,559 institutions across the world, accounting for a total of 55 disciplines and five distinct subject areas. These rankings are informed by an analysis of research citations and global surveys of employers and academics. Click here to view the full rankings.
