Today is the last day of classes at McMaster and students are gearing up to write exams, which begin Friday, April 7 and run until April 26. A total of 74,167 examinations will be written during this exam session. Students must present their McMaster Student Identification Card at each examination.

Beginning April 5, the All Night Study Program will run each evening from 7 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. until the last day of exams. The study program will offer fourteen MUSC conference rooms to students who would like to study in a safe and comfortable space. Conference rooms will available nightly from 7 p.m. on a first-come, first-serve basis. Monitors will be located on each floor of the student centre to supervise the late-night study sessions, and will be enforcing a silent study area on the third floor. MUSC lounges will remain open as usual for students to use. The study program was a great success last semester, averaging 150-200 students in the buildings at any time of the night.

To provide some of the essentials in easing some studying stress, the Union Market will offer extended hours beginning April 7, during the exam period opening 8 a.m. daily until 1 a.m. And for students who need an occasional break from studying, the House of Games will be open each night until 6 a.m., offering complementary bubble tea and light snacks.

Student Walk Home Attendant Team volunteers are available to walk students home between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m. every day until April 26. For a walk home call ext. 27500 or drop by their office in MUSC, room 204. SWHAT is a free call from any campus pay phone.

SWHAT is a free volunteer service of the McMaster Students Union, which operates anywhere on campus and within a 30-minute radius of campus. Teams consist of one male and one female volunteer who are equipped with SWHAT jackets (for identification), a flashlight, and a radio that is monitored by McMaster Security Services at all times.

“We will escort people anywhere within our boundaries regardless if they are a student, staff member, a community resident, or a visiting guest,” says SWHAT coordinator Kelly Kavanagh.

Residence Information

All residence students are required to vacate their residence accommodation by 5 p.m. on the day following their last scheduled examination as recorded by the Office of the Registrar or by 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2006, whichever is earlier. Exam quiet hours begin today (April 5) at 11 p.m. and are in effect around the clock with the exception of “courtesy hours” each day between 5 and 7 p.m. Please read more information on the Residence Code of Conduct defining these hours as “quiet hours” versus “courtesy hours” at http://housing.mcmaster.ca/AprilMoveOut2006.htm .
