Laptop orchestra livecodes ‘Jingle Bells’

With the help of a futuristic laptop orchestra, McMaster is wishing the community the best of the season.

The Cybernetic Orchestra, led by assistant professor David Ogborn in communication studies and multimedia, gathered in Convocation Hall recently to perform the holiday classic “Jingle Bells”, with a twist: the entire song is produced by students coding on their laptops.

The orchestra is part of the Electroacoustics, Space and Performance research group, which explores the possibilities of new technologies and techniques, as they apply to participatory and collaborative performance.
