Kudos to McMaster’s custodians

McMaster's custodians reflect on their important role during the past year.

McMaster’s Custodial Services team play an important role in welcoming McMaster community members to campus by helping keep our spaces clean and safe. Every day and every night, custodians are on campus executing McMaster’s comprehensive cleaning plan, including frequently disinfecting of high-touch surfaces. Even if you have spent only a little time in person at McMaster so far, you will quickly be able to spot the warm presence and attention to detail provided by our Custodial Services team members.

To mark National Custodial Worker’s Recognition Day on October 2, McMaster students, faculty members and staff are invited to share their gratitude and praises on this Kudo Board.

“The custodial services team is proud to support the academic mission of the university,” says Debbie Martin, assistant vice president and chief facilities officer. “McMaster’s custodians continued to clean and disinfect occupied indoor spaces on campus safely throughout this pandemic with a positive, professional demeanor. I’m so proud of all of our custodial teams, both on campus, in residence and off-site and I encourage everyone to take a moment to give kudos to our custodians.

“Our custodians are embedded in our residence communities and while they keep our buildings clean and spaces safe, they also invest themselves in our students’ lives,” says Kevin Beatty, director, Housing and Conference Services. “The personal connections our custodians create are some of the most important work they do.”
