Kate Cayley named 2018-2019 Mabel Pugh Taylor Writer-in-Residence


Fiction writer, playwright and poet Kate Cayley has been named the 2018-2019 Mabel Pugh Taylor Writer-in-Residence.

The program, jointly funded by McMaster University and the Hamilton Public Library, will enable Cayley to work one-on-one with aspiring authors at McMaster and within the Hamilton community. She will have office hours at McMaster on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am until 2 pm in room 312 of Chester New Hall.

Cayley’s short story collection, How You Were Born, won the 2015 Trillium Book Award. Her first poetry collection, When This World Comes to an End, was shortlisted for the ReLit Award and her young adult novel, The Hangman in the Mirror, won the Geoffrey Bilson Award for Historical Fiction.

As co-founder and artistic director of Stranger Theatre, she has written eight plays, which have appeared in Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, Chicago, Philadelphia, New York City and Istanbul.
