Ingram, who is also the producer and co-host of the Discovery Channel's award-winning Daily Planet and recipient of an honorary Doctor of Science degree from McMaster, will speak about the Theatre of the Mind: The Science of Consciousness.

Ingram's lecture will examine consciousness, the stream of thoughts and feelings that run through your head at all times while you're awake – thoughts and feelings that might not be what they seem.

In fact, according to Ingram, they are actually much less than they seem.

At tonight's lecture, Ingram will present evidence to back up this extraordinary statement and will draw what scientists think is a much more realistic view of the conscious mind, a mind that spends much of its time persuading you that it is all-seeing and all-knowing.

A prolific author, Ingram has written nine books, including three for children. This special Science in the City lecture will highlight research from his latest book, Theatre of the Mind: Raising the Curtain on Consciousness. Copies of the book will be available for sale or bring your own copy to be signed personally by Ingram.

The free public lecture will take place in the Hamilton Spectator Auditorium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the lecture begins at 7 p.m.

There are still seats available for this lecture. To reserve your spot, call 905-525-9140, ext. 24934 or e-mail sciencecity@mcmaster.ca
