These are just some of the emotions experienced by three internal audit staff members when they found out they achieved a 100 per cent pass rate on their Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) exams conducted by the Institute of Internal Auditors.

Shari McHugh and Trudy McMunn, both chartered accountants, and Tawnya Smith, a certified general accountant, wrote the exams in May and received the results in July. They started studying in March for the three-part exam. McMunn and Smith will write the third exam in November, while McHugh will write it in February.

“It was very satisfying, but we knew we had one more exam to do, so that's when the real celebrating will begin,” said Smith.

After passing the third exam, they will receive their CIA designation.
