More than 300 employees attended this year's Inspiring from Within conference on Feb. 21 and 22 at the Sheraton Hamilton Hotel. Presented by the 2008 Inspiring from Within Organizing Committee in partnership with the Working at McMaster Steering Committee, this year's conference focused on the theme “Get Energized.”

This was the sixth consecutive year that employees were able to enjoy a “made for McMaster” opportunity that included professional development, networking with colleagues and a retreat from the long days of winter.

“It was a privilege to work with such an amazing group of volunteers to provide such an exceptional event for employees,” said Sharon Baptist, 2008 conference chair. “This conference, year after year, continues to chase away the winter blahs and energize people when it is most needed.”

Sessions featured a variety of topics, including “Identity Theft,” “Breakdancing — A Metaphor for Diversity,” “Get in Tune with Your Body,” “Living Rhythm Drum Circle,” a cooking demonstration by the Sheraton's executive chef and a tour of the Art Gallery of Hamilton. Speakers included a mix of McMaster faculty, undergraduates, alumni and motivational speakers.

Feedback from conference delegates indicates that this year's conference hit the mark again:

  • “I like the opportunities for creative development and expression.”
  • “Phenomenal opening keynote — outstanding, inspiring and funny!”
  • “Fabulous — very informative!”
  • “Fun, relaxing and motivating.”
  • “Attended previous conferences and every year it's awesome.”

This conference is a high point for many employees at McMaster and has been informally referred to as “the most sought-after event on campus” by many who have had the pleasure of attending.

Photo galleries will be posted as they become available over the next week.

The 2008 Organizing Committee members included Sharon Baptist (chair), Jeanette Button, Brad Coburn, Elvia Horvath, Candy Hui, Domenica Mazepa, Ann Philbrook, Kim Raskob, Michelle Roloson, Bob Stacey, Lynne Taylor, Christina Tellier, Anita Toth and Serge Venier.
