Leaders in the social innovation and arts communities will provide the keynote and plenary addresses at the upcoming McMaster Innovation Showcase, June 17 at McMaster Innovation Park.
The day will start with a keynote address by Tonya Surman, executive director of the Centre for Social Innovation, and a leader in the movement to use social innovation, to resolve existing social, cultural, economic and environmental challenges for the benefit of people and planet. Her keynote speech will explore this growing movement.
Two morning panels will bring together McMaster researchers and local industry to discuss two areas of particular challenge for the Hamilton region: “Logistics and Transportation” and “Sustainable Energy”. These panels will examine the problems and proposed solutions.
The lunch plenary address will be presented by Louise Dompierre, president and CEO of the Art Gallery of Hamilton, who will explore the role of art and culture in today's knowledge society.
After lunch, attendees can choose one of two program tracks. The first will focus on innovations in life sciences, featuring a look at innovative research that promises to improve human health. The second track will focus on physical sciences and engineering. Both panels will bring together academic researchers and business leaders to discuss that ways that these innovations can improve everyday life.
Through the day, attendees will have an opportunity to view the third Annual McMaster Innovation poster competition. Poster submitters are challenged to show how their invention could be turned in to business. All attendees will again be asked to vote for the poster presenting the technology they would most want to invest in.
Finally, the showcase will close with the McMaster Innovator Awards, featuring the Innovator of the Year Award, Lifetime Innovator Award, and Industry Partner Award.
