Important Health and Safety Update – Workwell Audit

There are new developments regarding a possible Workwell health and safety audit at McMaster University.
The Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) has notified the University that because of the progress made by the entire community in health and safety practices and procedures, a Workwell audit will not be undertaken in 2008.
In late 2006, McMaster received notice from the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) that because of ongoing health and safety performance issues, the University was being identified for the comprehensive Workwell audit. The audit is a far-reaching and complete review of health and safety practices, performance and procedures.
Since receiving this notification, the entire community has worked hard to make health and safety a primary priority. This is evidenced by:
Karen Belaire, vice-president Administration, says this achievement is the result of a community-wide effort that is the foundation for future success.
“While we are celebrating this outstanding accomplishment, it is important now to build further on the success of the past two years. WSIB will continue to monitor the University's performance and a future audit is always a possibility.”
Belaire says maintaining and further developing the University's Health and Safety culture must continue.
“The University thanks everyone for their outstanding commitment to ensuring a healthy and safe McMaster. We look forward to ongoing support and dedication as we build on these achievements.”
