That's why McMaster has a variety of resources designed to help students, especially those with disabilities, successfully make this journey.

The Centre for Student Development (CSD) is once again hosting the annual Helping You Personalize Education (HYPE!) transition program for students identified with disabilities. HYPE! introduces students to the McMaster campus during a four day conference being held August 4 to 7.

“We want to help lay the groundwork for first year,” says Mike Murphy, program coordinator for HYPE!. “The skills these students learn will allow them to adjust extremely quickly come September.”

Students attending the conference will stay at Mary Keyes residence and will have all meals provided by McMaster. During their stay, students will learn about McMaster's accommodation process, adaptive technologies and specific learning strategies designed to help them achieve their full potential. As an added bonus, HYPE! is created and run by upper-year students, which gives incoming students a chance to meet current McMaster students.

Program coordinators Murphy, Alek Bijelic and Tyler Wright also take the students out to lunch in Hess Village, a movie at the Westdale Theatre and challenge them to take the ALTITUDE ropes course.
