In the early hours of Monday morning, a group of enthusiastic McMaster student
volunteers gathered to carry out an annual campus tradition: “tagging” for McMaster
Philanthropy Week.

All across campus, the bright red tags have been affixed to places and objects that were
made possible by generous McMaster donors. The tags read “Made possible through
donations” and are meant to remind us of the private support McMaster receives from
its community, making rooms, equipment and even entire buildings possible.

“We're tagging campus to highlight what our donors have done for students at
McMaster,” said Cindy Chen, chair of the Senior Class Gift Committee. “It's a visual
reminder so that students can see the impact of donations.”

McMaster Philanthropy Week is an opportunity to thank the University's 10,000 annual
donors and celebrate the campus community members whose support makes innovative
research and discovery possible at the University.

“We want students – and everyone, really – to think about how their experience at
McMaster would be different without the support of the community and our donors,”
said Chen.

McMaster's week of celebration coincides with National Philanthropy Day, which
celebrates the impact of philanthropic giving, volunteerism and social engagement
throughout Canada.
