As part of its celebration of the University's 125th anniversary, the McMaster Alumni
Association wants to determine McMaster's 125 People of Impact – those who have left
the biggest mark on McMaster and the world.

The alumni association is asking the community to help choose those who have had the
greatest impact on the University in a new contest, running online now.

Nominations can be submitted at mcmaster125.ca until May 31, when they will be
narrowed down to the top 125. Community members will then be invited to vote,
narrowing the list down to 10.

Alumni association president Bill McLean acknowledged the job of picking from among
so many significant people would be a tough one.

“McMaster has produced a great number of impactful people over the years,” he said.
“From scientists and engineers to actors and athletes, the list is quite extensive. It will
be interesting to see who makes it to the top 10.”

That list includes the likes of alumni such as politician Tommy Douglas, Olympian Adam
van Koeverden and actor Eugene Levy, as well as faculty like Nobel Prize-winner Bertram
Brockhouse, historian Edward Togo Salmon and McMaster medical school co-founder
Fraser Mustard.
