Dozens of volunteers are being kept busy answering phones at McMaster's Downtown Centre as the Haiti Media Telethon continues. As of 8:00 p.m., more than $500,000 has been raised, including a donation in-kind of a portable power equipment system, capable of water filtration and power generation.

The telethon is raising funds for two earthquake-damaged hospitals in Haiti. The hospitals have long-standing partnerships with Hamilton's St. Joseph's Healthcare. Funds raised will go directly to purchase much-needed medical supplies for the hospitals. St. Joseph's Healthcare doctors are on the ground in Haiti working with these organizations.

A group of more than 35 Hamilton community groups, businesses and organizations including McMaster have organized the telethon.

The telethon is being broadcast on CHCH TV, Cable 14 and on Hamilton radio stations. The Hamilton Spectator is providing live updates on its website as is The Daily News.
