The society inducted 500 new members, all of whom have marks in the top 15 per cent of their faculties, and honorary members Mike Des Jardins, Philip Savage and Gary Warner.
“We do recognize academic achievement, but we're about more than just marks,” said Goce Dimitrioski, vice-president public relations for Golden Key's McMaster chapter. “We do a great deal to give back to the community.”
The society offers its members a great number of opportunities to network with professionals in a number of fields. This year the group organized a trip to Kenya where students will volunteer to build houses and teach students.
Des Jardins, a McMaster graduate, was inducted as an honorary member for his work with youths through the YEAH (Youth Engagement and Action in Hamilton) program. Savage is currently a teaching professor in communication studies and multimedia and Warner is the former director of McMaster's Arts & Science program.
The induction ceremony took place Friday, November 27 in the Michael G. DeGroote Centre for Leaning and Discovery.
