Global Health program and its director garner awards

The Master of Science in Global Health program and its founder have been earning prestigious awards recently.

The Canadian Bureau for International Education has awarded its 2015 Panorama Award for Outstanding International Education Program (Academic category) to the five-year-old program because of its innovation and excellence in design, planning, implementation and management of high quality endeavours in international education.

The program was lauded as being innovative and collaborative as it provides students with “a truly international education and prepares them for careers in a globalized world, as it combines online learning with face-to-face classroom and hands-on experiences that mirror the complex international work situations graduates will face in the real world.” The graduate program is offered in partnership with Maastricht University in the Netherlands and links with partner universities in India, Thailand, Norway, and Colombia.

In addition, Andrea Baumann, the founding director of the global health program, has been recognized by her peers and her alma mater. Baumann is associate vice-president for global health at the Faculty of Health Sciences and scientific director of the University’s Nursing Health Services Research Unit.

She was inducted as a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing for her significant contributions to nursing and health care.

Baumann has also been given a tribute by the University of Windsor. An alumna of its nursing program, she was awarded the Alumni Award of Merit for accomplishments which have brought honour to the university and contributions to the community.
