Getting to Know Gayleen Gray – Assistant Vice President and Chief Technology Officer

There’s plenty of activity in the area of campus Information Technology, so it only made sense to sit down with a key person behind the plans – Gayleen Gray, Assistant Vice President and Chief Technology Officer.

Since August, Gray has been getting to know McMaster University, the IT systems and services, and other employees. Gray has met with a wide range of individuals from across campus, not just IT personnel, to listen and learn from everyone’s experiences. She’s also been using the findings from the IT Services Review to set short-term priorities and to begin planning longer term priorities. In her first six months, Gray has been steering the IT Governance Process which has led to $2.1 million dollars in IT investment funding to date. In the autumn, her team held the first ever IT Forum to bring together the campus IT community, and there will be an IT Town Hall on March 16, 2018 for all members of the campus. 

Communication to students, staff and faculty is a priority for Gray and she’s excited for the launch of a new website as a tool for keeping the McMaster community informed of new and upcoming IT initiatives. It’s not meant to be a one-way communication vehicle though. Gray hopes to receive questions, comments and feedback through this site as well. If you have a project you’d like to move through the IT Governance process, but aren’t sure how, it’s a great place to start.

When she’s not working on McMaster’s IT strategy and implementing recommendations from the IT Services review, Gray lives in Guelph where she is actively involved in regular exercise, socializing with family, friends and past colleagues and planning her next trip.
