Gearing up for the Learning Technologies Symposium

Deane Calgary

President Patrick Deane was a panelist at a recent session on innovation in undergraduate education at the spring membership meeting of Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC). Next month's Learning Technologies Symposium will highlight innovative teaching and learning technologies at McMaster.

Innovation is a key component of life at McMaster — both inside and outside the classroom.

Find out what’s happening when it comes to innovative teaching and learning on campus at next month’s Learning Technologies Symposium, slated for May 15 in Mills Memorial Library. The LTS is an annual event that brings together McMaster faculty, staff and students to share innovations, connect on project ideas and exchange best practices.

With 19 sessions and representation from all six faculties, this year’s symposium has a varied program with something for everyone. Topics include:

  • “iBooks author”: How any educator can create exciting and interactive learning material
  • ePortfolio: Ways to Implement Learning Portfolios in Your Classroom
  • Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs): Lessons from the learner’s side
  • Using GoogleDocs for electronic submissions: can we finally go paperless?
  • Online Problem-Based Learning: applications and exploration in undergraduate nursing education

The event is co-hosted by the Centre for Leadership in Learning (CLL) and RIVET — the educational technologies division of the Program for Faculty Development.

Drop in for a single session or stay the whole day (9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). Registration is free of charge, and lunch will be provided. For more information, a full list of abstracts and to register for the event, please visit the CLL website.
