Community and business leaders will gather at the Hamilton Convention Centre Thursday for the fourth annual Hamilton Economic Summit.

The Summit is designed to advance the city's economy and find ways to capitalize on its many strengths so that Hamilton can achieve its goals to be the best city in the
country to raise a child, promote innovation, engage citizens and provide diverse economic opportunities.

This year's challenge is how to energize the lower city by addressing issues such as private sector investment, the stimulation of more development projects and the
regeneration of assets in the built and natural environments. The afternoon will feature a community luncheon open to the public.

University President Patrick Deane is taking part in the day and will introduce the Honourable Glen Murray, Minister of Research and Innovation, whose address will open the
Summit.

“Our challenge as a city is to unlock and develop the potential of the citizens who live here, and the Economic Summit helps us better focus on how to do that,” said Deane.
“McMaster continues to work to address this challenge by helping to create jobs and new opportunities and educating young people who hold the key to Hamilton's future.”

Deane recently inaugurated a regular series in the Hamilton
Spectator
by the city's community leaders about the future of the city. In the article, Deane wrote about the University's responsibility to continue to help Hamilton find
ways to reach its potential.

“Community groups, city hall, the University and other institutions and organizations have a role to play in finding solutions,” he wrote. “McMaster is committed to being a
part of that team.”
