Four alumni honoured with Community Impact Awards

Four McMaster graduates were recognized Tuesday at the Hamilton Community Impact Awards luncheon.
Jean Clinton, Mary J. Anderson, Laurie Kennedy and Dyanne Semogas all received Community Impact Awards, which honour those who have a positive impact on the local community.
Clinton, a champion for Hamilton’s children, has worked extensively with public and non-profit health initiatives to develop strategies to improve infant and child development in the region.
Anderson is devoted to telling the stories of Hamilton’s heritage. She has written two books and three plays on the McQuesten family, who had significant impact on Hamilton’s development, and she created and manages the online Whitehern Museum Archives. She continues to work with the Hamilton Historical Board, Hamilton Arts Council and the Tower Poetry Society.
Kennedy and Semogas, both from McMaster’s School of Nursing, provide crucial stability for the McMaster Student Outreach Collaborative. The pair coordinate more than 300 students who volunteer to support homeless or marginally-housed people in Hamilton.
A number of students were also given the Community Contribution Award at the ceremony. The award recognizes contributions to both the University and the greater community.
