Three pioneers of McMaster University's medical school, a nursing leader and the first health sciences librarian, were inducted today into the Faculty of Health Sciences Community of Distinction in a ceremony that celebrated the Faculty's roots and founders.

The photographs and biographies of the five are displayed in a gallery on a second floor wall in McMaster's Health Sciences Centre.

All were chosen for their leadership and distinguished contributions through innovative scholarship and outstanding research.
The five inductees are: Moran Campbell, MD; Susan French, RN, PhD; Beatrix Robinow, BA; William Spaulding, MD; and William Walsh, MD.

“The Faculty's initiatives today are spiraling quickly upwards to larger success, but none of this would have happened without the hard work and dedication of our members of the Community of Distinction,” said John Kelton, dean and vice-president of the Faculty of Health Sciences and dean of the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine.

“It's very important that we recognize these outstanding individuals, who have made significant contributions to the development of the Faculty of Health Sciences.”

The 120-foot gallery is along the west wall of the Health Sciences Centre's second floor between the School of Nursing offices and the Ewart Angus Centre. The wall also contains recognition of the Faculty of Health Sciences' affiliated academic hospitals, Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton.

Up to five individuals are selected annually for to join the Community of Distinction. Those eligible include alumni and anyone who is, or has been, faculty or staff of the Faculty. Membership of the selection committee includes the Faculty's dean and representatives of its staff and alumni.
