A small fire forced the evacuation of students at Matthews Hall on Thursday night. The fire broke out in a bathroom on the second floor. No one was injured and students were allowed back into the building in less than two hours. The building was vented and there was no damage outside the washroom.

Hamilton police will be investigating and have cordoned off the bathroom while they complete their work. McMaster security provided extra building surveillance overnight.

About 260 students live in Matthews Hall which is located on the western side of campus.
