Experience Mars in three dimensions

If we’re going to find extraterrestrial life, it’s probably going to be on Mars.

That’s just one of the reasons to check out “Mars: A world on the Edge,” a new Origins Institute 3D film that explores the Red Planet.

The film was developed and produced by graduate students with assistance from supercomputers at the Swinburne University of Technology’s Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing in Australia. It premieres this week

“Mars: A World on the Edge” takes viewers on a trip to and around the planet, exploring places like the Valles Marineris – the longest and deepest canyon in the solar system – and discussing the possibility of habitability.

Gwendolyn Eadie and Ben Keller are coordinators for the 3D movie project.

“Humanity has for its entire existence searched for life beyond our world,” they say. “Today, Mars offers us the best chance of finding a place in the universe where a second genesis of life occurred.”

The movie will premiere May 14 at 8 p.m. Tickets can be reserved or bought at the door at MDCL 1110.
