Excellence in student leadership recognized

The McMaster Students Union (MSU) hosted its annual awards night Wednesday to celebrate excellence in student leadership.

The Rudy Heinzl Award of Excellence recognizes an outstanding one-year achievement that improves the lives of McMaster students. This year's recipient was Umair Khan, 2004-05 MSU vice-president of finance.

The Honour M Award recognizes outstanding leadership, volunteer service, contribution and/or special achievement in undergraduate extra-curricular activities by a member of the McMaster Community. This year's recipients were Neville Boney, 2003-04 MSU president and Lyanne Quirt, MSU MACgreen co-ordinator and third-year arts and science student.

MSU Merit Scholarships are awarded to outstanding students in two
categories, one-year contribution and overall contribution. This year's winners were Sapphire Singh, MSU MACgreen director and Amanda
Bateman, a Mohawk nursing student.

The J. Lynn Watson Award is presented annually to a student group or groups which have made significant contributions to the greater community through volunteer service and fundraising. This year's recipients were McMaster Engineers Without Borders and the McMaster African Students Association.

The Society of Off Campus Students received this year's MSU Spirit Award for participation in campus life and events.
