The event is being held at Iroquois Ridge High School in Oakville, a public school that has organized its curriculum around the theme of “Education for a Global Perspective.” Other high schools in the Halton and Hamilton regions have also been invited to participate.

Each year, the IGHC participates in community events to act as a centre of dialogue between the University and community on globalization issues. Last year the IGHC co-sponsored “What is the Future of Your City?” with the Art Gallery of Hamilton.

More than 300 students are expected to attend and take part in interactive sessions, such as “Globalization Compendium”, “Mix, Cut…” and “Globalizing Racism”. These sesssions are designed to get students thinking about both the challenges and possibilities created by globalization.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the main entrance of the school, followed by a welcome and keynote address by Ken Wiwa, an author, journalist, broadcaster and social entrepreneur. Workshops will be held at 10:30 a.m., 11:25 a.m. and 1:10 p.m. At 2 p.m., there will be an artistic presentation by Prologue to the Performing Arts, a non-profit organization that provides arts performances to schools and communities. The performance will feature the Toronto-based group Maderaz, which will lead the audience on a musical tour through Latin America.
