Distribution of a new emergency guidebook that provides key information about a wide range of safety topics is the next step in McMaster's implementation of an updated safety and security strategy.
The reference guide, produced by the University's Crisis Management Group, is being distributed to administrative areas, academic units and departments and other members of the McMaster community.
Its user-friendly flipchart format allows for quick access to key information on a wide variety of topics including: how to respond to medical emergencies, accident reporting procedures and what to do in a fire or lockdown situation.
“This clear, concise and up-to-date safety resource is designed to help prepare faculty and staff to deal with future emergencies,” says Karen Belaire, vice-president administration and chair of the Crisis Management Group. “We already do significant emergency training but this book is a quick reference guide that brings together information in an easy-to-use format.”
The guidebook includes key emergency numbers, website addresses and a campus map.
Managers and supervisors are asked to make the guidebooks available and accessible for faculty and staff in their areas.
The guidebook is one part of a broader campus safety and security plan now being implemented. In future months, a new campus-wide warning system will be implemented that includes outdoor sirens and video display messaging systems.
