Emergency exercise to take place on campus May 3

Members of the McMaster community, including the University's neighbours, should be
aware of an emergency planning exercise planned for Tuesday, May 3.
At some point that morning, a simulation of a serious incident will unfold on the west
campus, using specially trained volunteers and working emergency-services personnel
and vehicles.
Members of the community may notice unusual activity during the exercise and should
not be alarmed.
The precise nature, timing and location of the simulated incident are not to be revealed
until the exercise begins, so that emergency personnel can respond spontaneously.
The exercise will use realistic sounds and procedures, possibly including McMaster's
emergency warning system, and will affect entrances and exits from buildings in the
vicinity of the exercise.
The simulation is part of the University's ongoing emergency planning and preparation,
designed to ensure McMaster is as prepared as possible for the possibility of genuine
incidents.
On the day of the exercise, signs will be posted in the vicinity of the simulation. As the
exercise unfolds, electronic signs and screens across campus will remind members of
the community that a test is in progress.
