On Monday, MACgreen and the Hamilton Conservation Foundation were presented with a $12,000 cheque in recognition of their planning and volunteer efforts at the Hamilton edition of Color Me Rad.
The 5K fun-run took place last month at Christie Lake in Dundas.
As part of the event, Color Me Rad organizers pledged to make a $100 donation to the Cootes to Escarpment Dundas EcoPark Campaign for every volunteer who signed up. Campus organizations involved in the fundraising and volunteering drive included the McMaster Students Union, MACgreen, MacServe and the McMaster Outdoor Club.
Color Me Rad also donated a portion of ticket sales to the EcoPark Campaign from those who registered using the promo code “grasslands.”
MSU president David Campbell presented the final cheque to Hamilton Conservation Foundation board chair Richard MacDonald and MACgreen director Kaitlin Jingco. McMaster president and vice-chancellor Patrick Deane was also in attendance, along with Wayne Terryberry, chair of the President’s Advisory Committee on Cootes Paradise.
The EcoPark campaign is a collaborative project designed to protect the environmentally-significant stretch of grasslands located north of the McMaster campus between Cootes Paradise and the Niagara Escarpment. Overall, McMaster students have pledged to raise $25,000 for the campaign.
