Volunteers will be working out of the phone centre, taking calls from people who want to make a donation to support relief efforts. The telethon phone number is 1-877-525-6165.

The telethon runs until 10 p.m. tonight on CHCH News, AM900 CHML, 102.9 K-Lite FM, Talk 820, Oldies 1150 and Cable 14. There will be a live television feed on Cable 14 from 7-9 p.m.

People who want to make a donation can call in or come to the Downtown Centre in person. Donations can also be made at any Bank of Montreal branch in the area.

The telethon is also being supported by the Abruzzo Earthquake Fund Organizing Committee, The Hamilton Spectator, the Bank of Montreal and the Labourers' International Union of North America (LIUNA).

About 300 people were killed and 50,000 were left homeless when an earthquake caused extensive damage to the city of L'Aquila in the mountainous Abruzzo region April 6.
