The Crawley family would have felt right at home during Wednesday’s Downtown Abbey etiquette dinner.

More than 120 guests in their finest formal dress gathered at Liuna Station for an evening of wining, dining and refined conversation.

Hosted by Lorna Somers, McMaster’s director of Development, the Downton Abbey-themed etiquette dinner offered a series of helpful tips for planning or attending the perfect dinner party — all set to the theme of the popular British drama.

The event was covered by Hamilton Spectator reporter Amy Kenny, and many in attendance dressed up in costumes and period pieces for the occasion.

“Etiquette is like language,” Somers told the Spectator. “It’s meant to change with generations, but at the core it stays the same … it’s about the idea of courtesy and kindness to others.”
