Today at Hamilton Place, the DeGroote School of Business celebrates the graduation of 552 students.

There are 367 students graduating from the undergraduate commerce program, 151 students graduating from the MBA program and four students are graduating from the PhD program.

Three outstanding grads have been profiled below, each representing well-roundedness in and outside the classroom. All three students are star athletes, all three students are Marauder Scholars and all three students have secured employment with a recognized accounting firm this fall.

Fabio Filice is a 2005 math and statistics graduate who recently returned to DeGroote to finish an MBA he started in 2005 while he was playing professional football in the CFL. He also managed to win a Grey Cup during that time.

“I have given up a lot for some of the successes in my life, but I believe when honest hard work meets opportunity, great things can happen,” Filice said. “My hard work at DeGroote is starting to pay off and now I am able to start another chapter in my life.”

Andrew Lombard has helped the men's rugby team claim a number of OUA victories, all while remaining on the Dean's honour list. He was named the 2010 class valedictorian.

“The friends I made within the DeGroote community continually inspired me to take on new challenges to get the most out of my university experience,” said Lombard. “Staying busy and giving back will always be important to me.”

Ryan Fantham entered DeGroote one of nine players competing for a back-up quarterback spot on the varsity men's football team. He is leaving, according to head coach Stefan Ptaszek, as the most respected and celebrated QB in the program. He credits his transformation on the football field to the leadership training he received at DeGroote.

“My experience at DeGroote taught me if you work hard, you will achieve success,” Fantham said. “Success doesn't come easy and you have to work hard every single day to achieve it.”
