Dean of Students takes on world’s best at international basketball tournament

McMaster’s Dean of Students is on his way to Mexico to help Hamilton’s three-on-three basketball team at the FIBA 3×3 World Tour.

The tournament tips off July 16 when Team Hamilton takes on Saskatoon in Mexico City.

The six-foot-six Sean Van Koughnett, associate vice-president (teaching and learning), played varsity basketball for the Waterloo Warriors and for Canada’s national team.

He first put on a Team Canada jersey in 1989, when he played with the junior national team. He also suited up for the national team for an exhibition tour in 2001.

Van Koughnett, 45, is ranked 8th among Canada’s three-on-three basketball players.

He’ll be joined this weekend by McMaster alumni and former Marauders basketball players Taylor Black, Victor Raso and Stara Whaidi.
